Thank you to Toltec wisdom and a recent Matt Kahn talk for this reminder. You need to circulate the energy…change it up…break away from the old patterns and stop your predictable daily routines.
In the Toltec teachings, “mitote” is the chaos of multiple voices speaking in your mind (“monkey mind” or “maya”). In our daily lives, this mitote keeps us preoccupied and we can become caught up in our comfort zones of routines. These routines help us to deal with the insanity of life. But, it can keep us trapped within a negative life pattern and thereby cause the feeling of losing our inner power to create the life that we long for.
One of the fastest ways to recover your personal power is to break up the patterns that routinely run our life. You don’t need to leave your job and move to Timbuktu, it can be simpler than that.
If you shower first upon waking, shower last.
If you always have a bagel and coffee, try something else.
Wake up 10 minutes earlier…or later.
If you read a lot, read a little.
If you exercise regularly, stop…for a while. If you don’t, get your butt out there.
Try wearing different colors, related to how you FEEL in that moment. Feeling sad, wear yellow. Not feeling confident speaking, put on some blue. Shift the energy in your house/room. Move things out, clean, move everything back in…ONE AT A TIME and see how it each piece FEELS. You may come up with a different arrangement that feels better and allows more energy to flow in your life.
That’s why every once in a while, I will fast for 4-5 days…or wake up “late” or at 4am…or have a margarita. I guess I’ve always been comfortable with change…since I’m an alchemist, it makes sense. For me, it keeps me fluid, the energy in my life circulating (wow, I just had a realization about my “jack of all trades” father…he was circulating his energy). I used to have judgement about myself-connected to not completing things. But, along with looking at that judgement, eyeing any truth to it…I acknowledge that I was also “mixing it up” or “shifting the energy” so that I didn’t become stagnant or stuck in a pattern, ANY pattern or fixed position.
The whole idea ties in with our natural ability to survive change and thrive. This natural ability has been systematically bred out of us, via the system that we have lived and worked in. We can reclaim this inner power and natural ability and create the life we so deserve and enjoy.
